Our work with BEC to make their gaming hub public consultation a shining success

How could you possibly make a public consultation so exciting and successful? Hiring Platinum Live is the answer…

BEC, a leading property developer with a vast commercial property portfolio based here in the Northwest, announced earlier this year that they had acquired the former Whittles building on Duke Street in Whitehaven and announced plans to turn it into a digital gaming hub for those aged between 11 and 21.

In late October we were approached by BEC to provide marketing and creative communications around the public consultation they held from November 9 to November 11 at the Beacon Portal.

With only two full weeks to go before the consultation, we moved swiftly to implement an on-brand communications strategy, with a focus on the key target audience of young people, parents, and their schools/colleges.

Through expert execution, video, sector-specific research, compelling copy, great graphics, and hard work here is what we achieved in under three weeks:

  • 64,000 people reached across owned social media channels
  • 11% engagement rate across all owned channels
    (a good engagement rate is between 1% and 5%)
  • 5,400 Facebook post engagements (which was up ^ 2,749%)
  • Front-page splash in the Whitehaven News
  • 190k online readership of digital press coverage
  • Radio and broadcast journalists attended the consultation, with subsequent coverage
  • Designed all key event collateral; social graphics, roller banners and QR assets.
  • Produced a highly engaging social video for post-consultation
  • Event managed three packed out and engaging events

A decision, which it must be said, was a tough one to make but looking back the best thing we ever did. Why? Because it led us to make a very clear statement of intent in support of young people in and around Whitehaven.
